Dexter’s back for a stab at justice

THE third season of Dexter, an American TV series based on Darkly Dreaming Dexter, a novel by Jeff Lindsay, premieres on M-Net tonight and it smoothly takes off from where the last season left off.
Starring Michael C Hall as Dexter Morgan, an extraordinary forensics analyst who is also a ruthless killer, this series will make sure that you never see murderers the same way again.
Whoever told you that the most dangerous people are those who make you feel uneasy when they walk past, or the types who have that distinct deadly look in their eyes, might need to reconsider because Dexter makes it very clear that not all killers are like that.
In fact, he is a normal and somewhat charming man without a hint of evil in him.
In the first episode of the new season, we are introduced to his day-to-day routine.
He wakes up, brushes and flosses his teeth, makes breakfast and gets ready for a visit to the dentist.
There is nothing sinister about him, but that is just part of his strategy. He acts normally, meets a few people along the way, then kills and gets rid of the evidence without appearing suspicious.
As far as he is concerned, he is doing society a load of good and dubs himself a hero for getting rid of people that the justice system has failed to track down.
In a Ginia Bellafante article in The New York Times, he is said to swear by gore, which is his avocation as a forensics expert in the Miami-Dade County police department.
“Most normal people enjoy a sacred pact with society,” Bellafante quotes Dexter as saying from one of his characteristic voice-overs.
“Live a good life and society will take care of you. But if society drops the ball, then someone else has to pick up the slack. That’s where I come in,” Dexter explains.
After coming extremely close to being discovered in season two, in tonight’s episode, it seems Dexter is putting his life back together, but there is still the problem with the suspicious Detective Doakes. Dexter knows that he can outsmart Doakes again , but just how far will he have to go to get the detective off his tail?
